Speaker chairs all-party meet ahead of monsoon session, seeks smooth house proceedings

Rabindra Nath Mahto, Jharkhand Assembly Speaker, on Wednesday chaired an all-party meeting ahead of the monsoon session of the state legislature beginning Thursday, with Chief Minister Hemant Soren and leaders across party lines pledging cooperation for the smooth and dignified conduct of the House.

The meeting, held in the Speaker’s chamber at the Assembly, deliberated on conducting the session in accordance with democratic traditions and parliamentary decorum. Representatives of all political parties were urged to extend positive cooperation to ensure orderly proceedings.

Among those present were Radha Krishna Kishore, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Babulal Marandi, Leader of the Opposition, MLAs Pradeep Yadav, Suresh Paswan, Arup Chatterjee, Jairam Kumar Mahato and Nirmal Mahto, besides representatives of various political parties.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Soren said the Assembly was the supreme forum for reflecting the aspirations of the people and upholding democratic values.

He said the government was committed to meaningful discussion, accountability and constructive dialogue on all issues concerning public interest, and expressed hope that all parties would prioritise the interests of Jharkhand to ensure the successful conduct of the session.

Soren also reiterated that the government was treating the ongoing recruitment examination paper leak issue with the utmost seriousness, saying it had become a national problem affecting youth across several states.

He said investigating agencies were working round the clock and that the government’s focus was not only on investigation but also on finding lasting solutions. He invited students and candidates to place their demands and suggestions before the government, assuring that every concern would be heard.

Jairam Kumar Mahato, MLA, said that during the all-party meeting he raised the issue of the ongoing student agitation in Ranchi and urged the Chief Minister to meet the protesting students without delay.

He also demanded a two-hour discussion in the Assembly on the alleged recruitment scam and a separate detailed debate on the drought situation in the state.
