A man accused of murdering his wife following domestic disputes and suspicions about her character allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a local train at Grant Road railway station in Mumbai, hours after the woman’s body was found at their residence in Maharashtra’s Nalasopara.
The two incidents, which took place within a few hours, have sent shockwaves through the area, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder and the subsequent suicide.
According to the Nalasopara Police, the accused, identified as Majeed Hanif Khan (50), was a resident of Alfatifa Building in Aman Nagar, Takipada, Nalasopara West. He allegedly suspected his wife, Tabassum Majeed Khan, of infidelity, leading to frequent arguments and disputes between the couple.
According to preliminary information, Tabassum ran tuition classes for young children from their home. Parents regularly visited the house to drop off and pick up their children. Majeed reportedly developed suspicions about his wife’s character over these visits, which frequently led to arguments between them.
As per the complaint filed in the case, the family had dinner together on the night of November 6 and watched television until late. Subsequently, their daughter went to sleep in the hall, while her parents remained in their bedroom.
On November 7, around 5 a.m., the daughter woke up and noticed that the main door of the house was open. When she entered the bedroom, she found her mother, Tabassum, lying unconscious on the floor with injuries to her face and neck. Her father was missing from the house.
In her complaint, the daughter alleged that her father had attacked her mother with a sharp-edged weapon, inflicting injuries to her face and neck that resulted in her death, before fleeing the scene.
Following the information, a team from the Nalasopara Police Station reached the spot, conducted an inquest and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Police registered a murder case against the accused husband and launched a search to trace him.
Meanwhile, the police received information that Majeed Hanif Khan had allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a local train at Mumbai’s Grant Road railway station. The police are now investigating the sequence of events and the circumstances leading to both incidents. Further investigation is underway.
