Editorial Standards & Ethics

Editorial Standards & Ethics

The Guardian Chronicle is an independent English-language news organisation based in Ranchi, Jharkhand. These standards govern how we report, verify, and correct our journalism — and how you can hold us to account.

Accuracy & verification

We strive to get the facts right. Stories are checked before publication, and claims are verified against credible sources — official records, named officials, on-the-ground reporting, or established agencies such as PTI and IANS. When a story is developing and facts are still emerging, we say so clearly.

Sources & attribution

We attribute information to its source wherever possible. We use anonymous sources only when the information is in the public interest and cannot be obtained on the record, and never to make unsubstantiated personal attacks. We do not plagiarise, and we credit photographs and agency copy.

Independence & ownership

Our journalism is independent of political and commercial interests. Ownership and leadership are disclosed on our About page. Advertising and sponsored content are clearly labelled and never influence our reporting — see our advertising terms.

Fairness & right of reply

Where our reporting makes significant criticism of a person or organisation, we seek their response before publication and reflect it fairly. Anyone who believes they have been treated unfairly may contact us.

Use of artificial intelligence

We are transparent about where AI is used. Illustrative or AI-generated images are labelled, and all journalism is verified by human editors. Full details are in our AI Usage Policy.

Corrections

When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and transparently. Our process and how to report an error are set out in our Corrections & Complaints Policy, and published fixes appear in our Corrections Log.
