Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday paid an emotional tribute to Jharkhand movement stalwart and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren on his first death anniversary, urging the younger generation to learn from Dishom Guru’s struggles and carry forward his legacy.
Addressing a commemorative function at Shibu Soren’s ancestral village, Nemra-Lukaiyatanr in Ramgarh district, Hemant Soren was present at the unveiling of a 14-foot-tall statue of the JMM founder. The Chief Minister described his demise as an “irreparable loss” not only for his family but for the entire state.
“It is our responsibility to convey Dishom Guru’s struggles to the new generation,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the statue would help future generations understand the exploitation faced by the people of the region even after independence and the sacrifices that culminated in the creation of Jharkhand.
Hemant also recalled the killing of his grandfather, saying unity, brotherhood and mutual respect were the only answers to divisive forces. He credited Shibu Soren and other martyrs of the Jharkhand movement for the state’s creation and said it was now the collective responsibility of the people to take Jharkhand to new heights of development.
Assets under various government welfare schemes were also distributed to beneficiaries during the programme.
Tribute meetings and commemorative events were organised across all 24 districts of the state, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) remembered its founder on social media, highlighting his contribution to the statehood movement and recalling his belief that “education is the greatest weapon for protecting one’s rights and empowering society”.
Later in Ranchi, after paying floral tributes at Shibu Soren’s Morabadi residence, the Chief Minister also commented on the ongoing JPSC controversy, saying the government was closely monitoring the situation.
He said investigations were underway into all alleged irregularities and assured that an appropriate decision would be taken after all facts emerged, keeping students’ concerns in mind.
Gandey MLA Kalpana Soren described the anniversary as an emotional moment for every family in Jharkhand and said the government was sensitive to students’ concerns over the JPSC paper leak issue.
