The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday arrested three more persons in connection with the alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 14.
In a press statement, the CID identified the newly arrested persons as Umesh Kumar, Budheswar Bhagat and Ramesh Kumar. The three join 11 others already arrested by the agency, including JPSC Deputy Examination Controller Shweta Gupta and officials of TSR Data Processing Limited (TDPL), the firm engaged to conduct the examinations.
The investigating agency has also questioned former JPSC Chairman L. Khiangte over four consecutive days, interrogating him for seven to eight hours daily. He was reportedly questioned on a range of issues, including the selection of TDPL for conducting the examinations, the verification of the company’s credentials despite it being blacklisted in Uttar Pradesh, and the manner in which complaints raised by aspirants regarding the examinations were addressed.
Following the interrogation of Khiangte, the CID took the three previously arrested persons into remand to interrogate them further and cross-check their statements against those given by the former chairman.
The CID had registered a case earlier to probe allegations levelled by aspirants against the conduct of JPSC examinations. Aggrieved candidates had staged a gherao at the JPSC office in recent days to press for action on their grievances.
