Rs 4.99 crore to be spent on school infrastructure within 25 km of mining areas; classrooms to get digital art, wall graphics and interactive learning facilities.
Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) will undertake a major transformation of 101 government schools located within a 25-km radius of its mining areas under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The project, titled ‘Gyan Ki Roshni’, aims to make school environments more attractive, interactive and conducive to learning. BCCL will spend Rs 4.99 lakh on each school, taking the total project cost to around Rs 4.99 crore.
The initiative will focus on improving the learning environment in government schools by introducing digital and creative educational features. Under the project, digital art, wall painting, graphical walls, digital wallpapers and interactive floor graphics will be installed across an area of approximately 6,000 to 6,500 square feet in each school.
The project will be implemented in coordination with the Jharkhand Education Project Council. BCCL has granted conditional approval to the New Delhi-based NGO, Fresh of Change Foundation, to carry out the work until October 2027. An MoU has been signed between BCCL and the organisation for implementation of the initiative.
BCCL will provide Rs 4.99 lakh for each school, while the NGO will receive more than Rs 1.24 lakh per school in four instalments under the project arrangement. The work will be carried out in selected composite schools, covering Classes I to X or XII.
The selected schools are located in Baliapur, Jharia and Dhanbad blocks. Baliapur has 28 schools, Jharia 29 and Dhanbad 44. The selection has been made to cover government schools situated within the specified radius of BCCL’s mining operations.
For effective implementation, a nodal officer will be appointed for the project. A committee will be formed to monitor the progress of work every month and coordinate with school authorities. The initiative will also include training for teachers to help them make effective use of the new learning facilities.
After completion, a third-party assessment will be conducted to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of the work. BCCL will provide financial assistance only under this project and will not extend separate CSR support to another agency for the same work.
