Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has directed officials to identify the top 500 tax defaulters in each ward every month and take targeted steps to recover outstanding dues. The direction was issued during a review meeting of the revenue branch held on Friday to streamline revenue collection at the corporation level following the expiry of the tenure of the existing revenue collection agency. Sushant Gaurav, municipal commissioner, reviewed the proposed revenue collection system, ward wise targets, recovery of outstanding holding tax, assessment and reassessment of properties, trade licences and measures to strengthen the internal revenue. A special action plan will also be prepared for recovering outstanding rent from corporation owned shops. Gaurav directed tax collectors, revenue inspectors and city managers to prepare targetbased action plans for their respective areas. Officials were directed to prepare an updated ward wise report of pending rent and ensure recovery from defaulters according to the rules.
Additionally, the revenue collection camps be organised in every ward from October to facilitate local tax payments by residents. Officials were instructed to give priority to recovery of outstanding holding tax from major defaulters, assessment of newly constructed structures, reassessment of properties and expansion of trade licence coverage. Gaurav also directed officials to assess the revenue npotential of each area and ensure that collection targets are achieved. Gaurav, said, “With the revenue collection agency’s tenure over, the responsibility for revenue collection will now be handled effectively at the corporation level.”
