A female student of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, was found hanging inside her hostel room on Friday night, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased, identified as Anjali Suman, a resident of Godda, was staying at Hostel No. 9 on the BIT Mesra campus. According to preliminary information, she returned to her room after attending college in the evening.
When she did not come out of her room for a considerable period, her friends reportedly looked inside through the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. They alerted the authorities, following which the police were informed.
A team from the BIT police station reached the hostel and brought the body down. Police said that no suicide note was found at the scene.
The exact circumstances and cause of death remain under investigation. An Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has also been called to the spot to examine the scene and assist the investigation.
Police are continuing to investigate the case.
