Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a national-level wrestler in a drug case during an operation near the Rohini area. He has been brought to Ranchi on a three-day police remand, police said.

Police on Friday informed that the accused, Amit, a wrestler and native of Rohtak district in Haryana, was arrested from near Rohini in Delhi after the Delhi Police received a tip-off about his presence in the area.

Police stated that in a joint operation on April 20, 2023, Delhi Police and Ranchi Police had taken Rajesh Nag, an accused in the NDPS case, from Khunti district with around 500 grams of opium.

During interrogation, he had mentioned the names of Amit and Ranjit Nag, a resident of Ganganagar area in Meerut, as accomplices in the case. Both the accused persons were absconding.

On August 17, Delhi Police received information that Amit had been sighted in the Rohini area and conducted the operation to arrest the accused.

Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar said that Amit was involved in drug peddling in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi as well, adding that he had been jailed in this connection in the past.
