Patients in Jharkhand will soon be able to get blood delivered within four hours through a single call.

The state government signed an MoU with MS Science, a Bhopal-based company, on Wednesday to establish the new blood supply system. Under the proposed system, a toll-free number will be made available for patients and hospitals to request blood. A Central Command Centre will be established in Ranchi to coordinate the entire process, from receiving requests to arranging blood and ensuring its delivery to the concerned hospital. On the occasion, Irfan Ansari, health minister said, “The arrangement will ensure timely availability of blood for patients in need, with the system targeted to become fully operational within the next 90 days.”

Under the agreement, the agency will be responsible for blood collection, testing, storage, maintenance and transportation to the hospital concerned. The collected blood will be tested according to prescribed standards before being supplied Ajoy Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary of health department, said, “Blood would be collected not only from rural areas but also through blood donation initiatives involving NCC, NSS, police personnel and private organisations.”

Moreover, ʻFatty liver free’ campaign, for early detection, prevention and treatment of fatty liver disease, will be launched by the end of September as a pilot project. MP Sanjay Seth, Union minister of state for defense announced the campaign will be implemented under the guidance of Dr S K Sarin in collaboration with Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.
