The headless body of a woman was found in a forest in Kherbadi area of Jharkhand’s Dhanbad on Friday, police said.
The woman’s severed head was found in a plastic sack in Dhangi village near a field barely 100 metres away from the body, they said.
“Pieces of a red cloth and incense sticks were also found near the body. The head had been smeared with blood,” Baliapur police station officer-in-charge Satyajit Kumar said.
The deceased has been identified as Punam Kumari, a native of neighbouring Giridih district.
“We have detained her boyfriend from Giridih. The body has been sent for post-mortem and we are investigating all aspects of the case,” the officer said.
