Radiation centres will be developed at six locations and cancer day care services will be introduced at medical colleges and district hospitals. The decision was taken in a meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Ajay Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary, health, medical education and family welfare department.
A detailed proposal will be prepared to establish cancer day care and radiation centres in all five medical colleges, including Ranchi, under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Singh directed officials to assess the available infrastructure, equipment, manpower and expenditure requirements at district hospitals and medical colleges and prepare a detailed proposal. Under the proposed plan, the medical colleges are considered in two groups. The first group would comprise Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Dumka, while Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Palamu would form the second group.
Beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat and Abua Swasthya Suraksha schemes will receive treatment according to the packages and rates prescribed under the respective schemes. For other patients, the rates prescribed under the central government health scheme (CGHS) are proposed to be used as the basis.
Moreover, the government is also planning to expand the Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan facilities in Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad and the possibility of operating these services under the PPP model.
A departmental committee will be constituted to oversee the implementation of the plan. The committee, headed by Shashi Prakash Jha, additional secretary and executive director of Jharkhand State Aarogya Society, will monitor proposal preparation, assessment of resources, the tendering process and operational arrangements.
