Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan unfurled the national flag at Randhir Prasad Verma Stadium on Sunday to mark the 80th Independence Day, reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to balanced, transparent and citizen-friendly development.

In his address, he outlined key achievements across infrastructure, healthcare, education, rural development and women’s empowerment.

The ceremony opened with Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar inspecting the parade, followed by the DC unfurling the national flag and the singing of the national anthem.

Ranjan noted that Dhanbad had scored a perfect 100 out of 100 in the Central Pollution Control Board’s assessment under the National Clean Air Programme.

To ease traffic congestion, the district is carrying out road widening projects, along with the construction of flyovers, foot-overbridges and the widening of the Gaya Bridge underpass near Shramik Chowk.

Under the Namami Gange programme, five sewage treatment plants with a combined capacity of 192 MLD have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 769.9 crore, with the first phase already in progress.

Separately, three key water bodies, Barmasia, Loco and Raja Talab ponds, are being rejuvenated under AMRUT 2.0.

On the rural development front, over 1.48 lakh families have been brought into the fold of 13,048 self-help groups, helping 6,464 women achieve “Lakhpati Didi” status.

Through the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana, 5,822 individuals received free skill training, resulting in 2,429 job placements.

Healthcare access has also seen notable gains, with outpatient footfall at Sadar Hospital doubling from roughly 7,000 to 14,000, and the facility now offering over 80 pathology tests.
