Bengal CID conducts parallel raid at Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee’s office in Kolkata (Ld) Kolkata, June 9 (IANS) While one team of the sleuths of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police has started conducting raid and search operations at a Trinamool Congress party office adjacent to the residence of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Kalighat in Kolkata on Tuesday, another team of CID.
Sleuths has started a parallel raid and operations at an office at Camac Street in the city from where the Chief Minister’s nephew and the party’s General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee used to operate. At the party office adjacent to Mamata Banerjee’s residence at Kalighat, the CID officials faced initial resistance as former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Subhasish Chakraborty, who claimed to be voluntarily and temporarily.
In charge of the party office, refused entry to the sleuths. However, later, a huge joint forces contingent of Kolkata Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel arrived at the spot, following which the CID sleuths entered the party office, ignoring the resistance from Chakraborty and several of his aides. Similarly, the officials of the CID team who arrived at the Camac Street office.
At roughly the same time on Tuesday afternoon also faced initial resistance to enter from the staff of the said office. However, soon a team from the local Shakespeare Sarani Police Station arrived at the spot and, thereafter, the CID officials entered the Camac Street office of Abhishek Banerjee. At the time the report was filed, parallel raids and search operations were being conducted both.
At the Trinamool Congress party office at Kalighat as well as at the Camac Street office of Abhishek Banerjee. Incidentally, Abhishek Banerjee was supposed to appear at the CID’s office at Bhabani Bhavan in South Kolkata by 5 p.m. on Tuesday for questioning in an ongoing case of mismatch of signatures of some Trinamool Congress legislators in a crucial resolution pertaining to important positions.
In the West Bengal Assembly, which are reserved for the Opposition bench. This was the third consecutive notice that has been served to Abhishek Banerjee by the CID in the matter. Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee are reportedly in New Delhi now and both attended the crucial meeting of the Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc on Monday.
