Dhanbad: The district administration sealed ultrasound machines at two diagnostic centres in Dhanbad on Thursday following surprise inspections over alleged violations of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.
The action came days after a 26-year-old pregnant woman allegedly died during an illegal abortion in Katras following a sex determination test.
Acting on the directive of Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, a six-member inspection team constituted by Civil Surgeon Dr Sanjeev Prasad conducted inspections at New Relief Diagnostic Centre in Saraidhela and Topchanchi Jaanch Ghar under the supervision of SDM Lokesh Barange.
The administration said a pregnant woman from Katras had allegedly undergone illegal foetal sex determination at the Saraidhela centre. Following the inspection, its ultrasound machine was sealed, and the Civil Surgeon was directed to initiate legal action.
