Jaipur: Two students preparing for competitive examinations have died in separate incidents in Rajasthan’s Kota, prompting police investigations, officials said on Monday.
A 16-year-old JEE aspirant from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, was found hanging in his paying guest (PG) accommodation in the Jawahar Nagar police station area on Sunday night. Earlier, on the same day, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Darbhanga, Bihar, died after being found unconscious in the bathroom of his hostel.
Police are investigating both cases. The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manish Sharma, the 16-year-old student was living in a PG accommodation in Mahavir Nagar-I and had arrived in Kota approximately six months ago to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh of the Jawahar Nagar police station said that the student had returned from his coaching centre on Sunday after taking a test. At around 10 p.m., a student staying in the room opposite his called him. When the teenager failed to respond despite repeated knocks, fellow students alerted the PG manager. The manager reportedly looked through a window and found the student hanging inside the room, which was locked from within. Police reached the spot, recovered the body and transported it to MBS Hospital.
The student’s family was informed that night and subsequently arrived in Kota. Police said the reason behind the student’s death had not yet been established.
In a separate incident, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant was found unconscious in the bathroom of his hostel in the Landmark area, under the jurisdiction of the Kunhadi police station.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhanraj, the student was a native of Darbhanga, Bihar, and had been living in Kota for approximately two years to prepare for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He was staying at Shreeji Residency.
On October 24, at around 1 p.m., he returned to the hostel with food. Later, when other students knocked on the door and received no response, they were unable to establish contact with him. On October 25, his brother, who was staying in the same hostel, also knocked on the door. When the student did not respond, the hostel management was informed.
The management subsequently broke open the door and found him unconscious in the bathroom. He was rushed to MBS Hospital, where he died a few hours later.
According to the information provided, a minor injury mark was noticed near his ear, possibly caused by a fall in the bathroom. The exact circumstances of the injury and death remain subject to investigation.
The family of the NEET aspirant has raised suspicions regarding the circumstances of his death and demanded a thorough investigation.
According to the supplied information, police registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code following the family’s complaint.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing. Police are yet to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
