Ranchi: The School Education and Literacy Department has taken a serious view of the slow progress of the mandatory Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training for teachers of Classes I to V. The education department has warned of disciplinary action against those who fail to complete the programme within the stipulated timeframe.

According to a directive of Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), all primary school teachers are required to complete a 30-hour online CPD training programme through the G-Guruji app. The training started on April 20, 2026, and is based on a teacher needs assessment and must be completed within 90 days.

Only 16 Percent Teachers Complete Mandatory 30-Hour Online Training via G-Guruji App

Out of a total of 4,519 teachers in the district who were required to undergo the training, only about 729 teachers, i.e., 16 percent, have successfully completed it so far. While 2,765 teachers have started the training, they are yet to finish it. Another 1,025 teachers have not even initiated the programme.

The department has directed all the block education extension officers (BEEOs), block programme officers (BPOs), block resource persons (BRPs), cluster resource persons (CRPs), and headmasters to ensure that teachers are informed about the training and complete it on priority. Officials have been instructed to use field visits to monitor progress and ensure that all teachers begin the training within the next two days.

Withholding Increments, Adverse Service Book Remarks Await Defaulting Teachers

The Education Department has also made it mandatory for teachers to obtain a training completion certificate after successfully finishing the course. The CPD programme is aimed at enhancing teachersโ€™ professional competencies and improving classroom teaching practices.

The letter stated, โ€œTeachers who fail to complete the training within the time may face disciplinary action. These could include withholding annual salary increments, adverse remarks in service books, and other administrative actions.โ€
