The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College Hospital at Dimna has been allocated Rs 12.91 crore for the financial year 2026-27 to strengthen patient care and meet its operational needs.
The order, issued by the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department, sets aside Rs 2 crore specifically for medicines and other medical supplies, a move expected to ease shortages of essential drugs at the state-run facility.
Under departmental directions, medicines and consumables must be procured strictly on the basis of actual requirements. The hospital administration has been asked to assess likely needs for the coming months, keeping in mind availability, shelf life and expiry dates.
Where necessary, purchases will be made through e-tendering and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) as per prescribed rules. The hospital must also display the list of available medicines in a public place and monitor stock levels regularly.
The sanctioned amount covers other expenses as well. About Rs 2.70 crore is earmarked for salaries and nearly Rs 3 crore for contractual remuneration, with separate provisions for office expenses, electricity, equipment and other establishment costs.
The department has stressed financial discipline and accountability. Hospital management must submit expenditure details by the seventh of every month and use the funds only for the purposes sanctioned.
Officials have also been told to avoid unnecessary stocking and to carry out regular assessments before placing fresh purchase orders.
“The allocation will help MGM Medical College Hospital maintain adequate stocks of essential medicines and meet critical operational requirements. The focus will be on timely procurement, proper utilisation of funds and ensuring that patients do not face inconvenience because of shortages,” an official told The Guardian Chronicle.
The funds come at a time when MGM Hospital, one of the major government hospitals serving patients across Kolhan, continues to handle a heavy patient load. Their proper use is expected to support uninterrupted healthcare services.
