Jharkhand’s information technology sector could be poised for its biggest breakthrough in over two decades, with the state’s proposed 107-acre mega IT Park in Ranchi, entering a crucial planning phase and industry bodies launching a formal outreach campaign to attract some of India’s largest technology firms. A senior state government official said the process of appointing an agency to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and master plan for the project had entered its final stage. “We have initiated the final selection process for an official agency to draft the DPR and master plan, which are legally required to establish the specific budgetary parameters. There were some glitches, but hopefully we will be taking it forward soon,” the official said. The proposed mega IT Park is being developed on 107 acres in Dhurwa, Ranchi, and is envisaged as a plug-and-play technology hub equipped with modern office spaces, data centres, startup incubation facilities and green infrastructure. The project is expected to generate more than 10,000 jobs and help stem the migration of engineering and IT talent from the state. In a parallel move, the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) has begun sending personalised invitations to more than 50 leading technology companies, including TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, L&T Technology Services and Zoho, urging them to establish operations at the upcoming facility. Aditya Malhotra, president, FJCCI, said the organisation was positioning Jharkhand as a new growth frontier for IT and IT-enabled services in eastern India. “We are inviting companies to capitalize on Jharkhand’s emerging tech ecosystem at Ranchi’s Mega IT Park. As Jharkhand systematically shapes up as the primary frontier for high-tech industrial manufacturing, IT and ITeS in eastern India, the IT companies can anchor their next phase of global delivery expansion within our progressive state,” Malhotra said. He said the state offered a combination of competitive incentives, a growing talent pool and improving infrastructure. According to FJCCI, Jharkhand is witnessing reverse migration of experienced technology professionals returning from major IT hubs, creating an available workforce with expertise in areas such as cloud services, software engineering and generative artificial intelligence. The chamber has also highlighted fiscal incentives offered by the state government, including capital subsidies, interest subventions, GST linked benefits and employment incentives, alongside a single-window clearance mechanism aimed at speeding up project approvals. The initiative marks a significant shift for a state whose IT growth has remained largely subdued since the establishment of the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre in Ranchi in 2006. Industry observers say the combination of government-backed infrastructure development and direct engagement with leading technology companies could provide the momentum needed to position Ranchi as an emerging IT destination. If implemented as planned, the project would rank among the largest IT infrastructure developments in eastern India.
