At least six persons, including two minors, were killed in separate lightning strikes across four districts of Jharkhand in the past 24 hours, police said on Monday.
Tragedy Hits Farmers: Casualties in Ranchi and Gumla Paddy Fields
Two deaths each have been reported from Ranchi and Garhwa districts, while one each was reported in Gumla and West Singhbhum districts. Two persons were killed in separate incidents in Ranchi district. The deceased have been identified as Shubham Mandal (16), a resident of Duvadu village under Silli police station area, who died on Sunday night.
Speaking to TGC, Aun Ema Ekka, Circle Officer of Silli, confirmed the incident. Ravi Tigga (25) of Semra village under Bero police station area also died. Naveen Kumar, Officer-in-Charge of Silli, said Mandal was struck by lightning while transplanting paddy seedlings in a field with his father. A similar incident occurred in Semra, where Tigga was struck by lightning while working in a field.
Devraj Oraon (45), a resident of Kugaon village under Ghaghara police station, was killed after being struck by lightning in Gumla district. Oraon was killed while he was working in his field, police said.
Children Struck in Garhwa and West Singhbhum Villages
In Garhwa, the deceased have been identified as Shahbaz Ansari (18) and Faizal Khatun (12). Both were residents of Doodhwala village under Ranka police station area, an official said. The victims were killed after lightning struck them, and another 6-year-old boy sustained burn injuries while they were plucking mangoes at some distance from their house in the village, the official said.
In West Singhbhum, a man died and five others, including three children, were injured after being struck by lightning in separate villages under Majhgaon police station area on Sunday evening. Vicky Pingua (25), a resident of Chatarisai village, was sitting in the courtyard of his house when he was struck by lightning and died on the spot under Majhgaon police station area.
In the same village, Krishna Munda (22) and three children — Anjali Sirka (10), Anju Sirka (8) and Ayush Sirka (6) — were also struck by lightning and have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Majhgaon, where their condition is stable, he said.
In another village near Dildar Chowk, a woman identified as Mantarni Kodenkal (22) was struck by lightning while returning home from work. She was brought to the Community Health Centre in Majhgaon and referred to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital.
