The cerebral malaria outbreak in East Singhbhum’s Potka block continued to intensify on Tuesday, with health authorities confirming 26 new cases of cerebral malaria and 18 additional malaria infections during an extensive screening drive.
44 New Malaria Cases Detected in Village Screenings; No New Fatalities Reported
District health officials said no fatalities were reported during the day. A total of 44 positive cases were identified after screening 507 people across several affected villages.
The latest infections come on top of the 24 cerebral malaria cases recorded between June 25 and June 29.
Fatalities Rise To Four; Mass Screening Camps Activated In Vulnerable Villages
The outbreak has claimed four lives over the past four days, prompting the administration to step up surveillance and treatment measures.
Medical teams organised screening camps in Sabar Nagar, Kandar, Jojogora, Gamhirkucha, Chhota Ramgarh, Kundrukocha, Jharia, Tangrain, and other villages in Potka block.
Individuals who tested positive were immediately provided anti-malarial medication at the camps.
Mass Check-Up Campaign Expanded To Ghatsila, Dumaria, And Musaboni Blocks
To contain the spread of the disease, the health department has decided to expand the screening and health check-up campaign to the Ghatsila, Dumaria, and Musaboni blocks.
