Chennai Police Detain 285 History-Sheeters, Remand 152 in Two-Day Drive

Chennai: The Chennai police rounded up 285 individuals with criminal antecedents and history-sheeters during a special drive conducted across the city, police sources here said on Saturday.

Following thorough investigations, 152 offenders were remanded to judicial custody, while the rest were released with a stern warning, they said.

The intensive search operation was conducted from the night of September 10 to the evening of September 11 under the direct orders of Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A Amalraj.

Accordingly, special police teams led by assistant commissioners and inspectors carried out raids in their respective jurisdictional limits under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police.

Across the city’s four zones, the police detained 108 suspects in the north zone, 94 in the south, 45 in the east, and 38 in the west zone.

Out of the 285 total individuals apprehended, 152 were formally remanded to judicial custody.

The remaining individuals were interrogated and released with a strict warning against engaging in any future unlawful acts.
