A five-year-old girl lost her life after reportedly becoming trapped inside a parked car in Chaibasa’s Tungri area on Wednesday. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in West Singhbhum district.
According to the police, siblings Ankit (7) and Ishani (5), residents of Tungri, were returning home from school when they entered an abandoned car parked outside the Green Flats compound to escape the intense afternoon heat. The vehicle was stationed near the SPG Mission Compound locality, where the children lived.

Shortly after entering the car, both children began experiencing breathing difficulties.As Ishani’s condition worsened, she fell unconscious. Ankit managed to open the car door and escape. He ran towards home seeking assistance and encountered his grandfather on the way, urging him to rescue his sister.
By the time family members reached the vehicle, Ishani’s condition had become critical. She was rushed to Chaibasa Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival. Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Hiralal Mahato said initial findings suggest asphyxiation as the likely cause of death. However, the exact reason will be confirmed after the postmortem examination report is received.
