Ranchi: Banking services will be suspended for five consecutive days from September 26, just ahead of the Durga puja festival. A strike has been called by United Forum for Bank Unions (UFBU) for three days from September 28 to 30, but with September 26 and 27 being the fourth Saturday and a Sunday, the closure will extend to five days.
The impending strike is part of the September 11 one-day strike called by UFBU, during which the three-day strike was announced. Mukesh Singh, Joint Secretary, UFBU, Jharkhand, said bank employees are calling for the implementation of a five-day work week, meaning banking operations would take place from Monday to Friday, with Saturdays and Sundays being weekly off days.
While branches will remain closed, customers can utilise ATMs, UPI, internet banking, and mobile banking for various essential services. However, it is important to keep the holiday and strike schedule in mind for tasks that require a physical visit to the branch.
The impact of this strike on major private sector banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank may differ.
