An important celestial event is set to take place on August 28, 2026. On this day, the Moon will move deep into the Earth’s shadow, known as the umbra. At the peak of the eclipse, around 93% of the Moon’s diameter will be covered by the Earth’s umbral shadow.
However, since a small portion of the Moon will remain outside the umbra, it will not be a total lunar eclipse but a deep partial lunar eclipse. From an astrological perspective, the eclipse is also considered significant, with some zodiac signs believed to experience a stronger impact.
How Does a Lunar Eclipse Occur?
A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, preventing direct sunlight from reaching the Moon. During the event, the Moon first enters the Earth’s lighter outer shadow, known as the penumbra, before moving into the deeper umbra.
For a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon must enter the umbra, whereas during a partial lunar eclipse, only a portion of the Moon moves into the Earth’s deep shadow. On August 28, a small part of the Moon will remain outside the umbra.
Moon to Remain Up to 93% in Earth’s Shadow
According to NASA calculations, the eclipse will have an umbral magnitude of 0.9299. This means that at the peak of the eclipse, nearly 93% of the Moon’s diameter could be covered by the Earth’s deep shadow.
The partial umbral phase is expected to last around 3 hours and 18 minutes, while the entire event, including the penumbral phase, could continue for approximately 5 hours and 38 minutes.
Moon May Appear Reddish
During the eclipse, the portion of the Moon covered by the Earth’s shadow may appear red or copper-coloured. This happens because sunlight bends as it passes through the Earth’s atmosphere before reaching the Moon.
This atmospheric effect can give the Moon a reddish glow, making the deep partial eclipse a striking sight.
Eclipse Will Not Be Visible From India
The August 28 lunar eclipse will not be visible from India. The event can be observed from parts of the eastern Pacific Ocean, the Americas, Europe and Africa.
The eclipse is expected to reach its peak at around 9:44 AM IST. At that time, the Moon will not be in a visible position from India. However, people can watch the event from home through online live streams.
These 3 Zodiac Signs May Be Affected
1. Aquarius
Since the lunar eclipse is taking place in Aquarius and Shatabhisha Nakshatra, people born under Aquarius are believed to experience a stronger influence. They may face mental restlessness, unexplained fear or confusion while making decisions.
Avoid rushing into major career or financial decisions and think carefully before taking important steps.
2. Leo
As Leo lies directly opposite Aquarius, those belonging to this zodiac sign may experience an impact on their married life and partnerships. Differences or misunderstandings with a spouse or business partner could arise.
Maintaining patience and prioritising communication instead of arguments may prove beneficial.
3. Taurus
For Taurus natives, sudden responsibilities may increase at the workplace. They may feel pressure in their professional lives, but their hard work could also bring new opportunities.
There may be possibilities of financial gains and an improvement in position and reputation. It is advisable to remain calm, polite and measured while communicating with senior officials.
