A long-standing land dispute allegedly turned deadly in West Singhbhum district, where a 40-year-old man, his wife and their 12-year-old son were allegedly hacked to death with an axe, police said.
The incident took place on August 21 at Torabburu village under Tonto police station, but the matter came to light only on August 26. Police subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the triple murder on August 27.
The deceased were identified as Rajin Doraiburu (40), his wife Jano (38) and their son Kande (12).
After allegedly committing the murders, the accused are said to have buried the bodies to conceal the crime. Rajin and his minor son were buried within the premises of their house, while Jano’s body was reportedly buried in a nearby forest.
Following a complaint lodged by Ramia Doraiburu, Rajin’s elder son, police constituted a special investigation team under Jagannathpur SDPO Raphale Murmu to investigate the case.
According to Murmu, the police apprehended two youths, Bonj Doraiburu (19) and Muchia Doraiburu (20), both residents of Torabburu, based on specific inputs.
During interrogation, the two suspects allegedly confessed to killing the three members of the family over a land dispute, said SDPO Jagannathpur Rafael Murmu.
Acting on information provided by them, police recovered the bodies and seized the blood-stained axe suspected to have been used in the crime.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the killings, examine the land dispute and determine whether any other persons were involved.
The two accused are being sent to judicial custody as further legal proceedings continue.
