Seven children suffering from cleft lip were sent from Dhanbad to Ranchi for free corrective surgery under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). The children were identified during a special health camp held at Sadar Hospital and will undergo surgery at Devkamal Hospital in Ranchi.

The initiative was taken under the direction of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Aditya Ranjan. The children, aged between five months and 13 years, were taken to Ranchi in a special vehicle along with their parents, RBSK doctors and the nodal officer of the health camp.

Refreshments were provided to the children and their guardians before departure.

Civil Surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma said the initiative aims to help children overcome congenital deformities and lead healthier and more confident lives. He said such surgery can cost lakhs of rupees at private hospitals, but the selected children will receive treatment completely free of cost with district administration support.

The beneficiaries include children from Jamdih in Tundi, Mukunda, Baramsia, Netwari Anganwadi, Police Line, Harmadih and Bansjora. Health cards have been prepared for all seven children, and their condition will be monitored after surgery to ensure proper recovery and follow-up care.

The surgery could not be conducted at Sadar Hospital this time due to technical reasons. However, the health department plans to establish a permanent cleft-lip surgery facility there within the next two months. The facility is expected to reduce the need for families to travel outside the district for treatment.

Deputy Superintendent Dr Sanjeev Kumar Prasad, District RCH Officer Dr Rohit Gautam, DPM Pratima Kumari and other officials were present during the programme.
