Ranchi: Jharkhand’s tourism destination Patratu has won national recognition, bagging the Silver Banyan Award in the Riverside Heritage category at The Week Heritage Awards 2026, highlighting the state’s growing profile on India’s tourism map. The award was received by state Tourism Secretary Mukesh Kumar and Tourism Director Naman Priyesh Lakra at a ceremony held at the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library in New Delhi. Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attended the event as the chief guest.
Known for its scenic valleys, natural beauty and sprawling reservoir, Patratu has emerged as one of Jharkhand’s prominent tourist destinations. Facilities such as boating, a floating restaurant and a musical fountain at Patratu Lake have enhanced its appeal among visitors. The award recognises efforts to promote the destination and develop tourism infrastructure around its natural landscape. It also highlights Jharkhand’s efforts to position its natural and cultural heritage on the national tourism map.
Organised by The Week magazine, the second edition of the Heritage Awards recognised destinations, cultural heritage sites and innovative tourism initiatives for their contribution to heritage conservation, tourism promotion and local development. A total of 18 awards across nine major categories and eight special editorial awards were presented.
