Ranchi: The enthusiasm for Durga Puja is growing across the city as nine major puja pandals opened their doors to devotees on Wednesday, the fourth day of Sharadiya Navratri. With grand structures, elaborate decorations and distinctive themes ready to welcome visitors, the city streets are beginning to resemble a carnival as devotees gather to seek blessings from Goddess Durga.
The pandals that opened include Chandrashekhar Azad Durga Puja Committee on Main Road, Bharatiya Yuvak Sangh at Bakri Bazaar, OCC Club near Bangla School, Ranchi Railway Station Durga Puja Committee, Shri Ramlala Puja Committee at District School, Jyoti Sangam in Upper Bazaar, Trikon Havan Kund Durga Puja at Kutchery, Rajasthan Mitra Mandal on Seva Sadan Road and Geetanjali Club in Morabadi.
This year, several pandals feature elaborate temple-inspired designs. OCC Club has recreated the spiritual ambience of Kailash Dham, showcasing stone-carving traditions through modern techniques. The District School pandal is modelled on the Sarvesh Temple of Varanasi, while Bharatiya Yuvak Sangh at Bakri Bazaar has taken inspiration from Tamil Nadu’s Brihadeeswara Temple.
The Main Road pandal draws inspiration from Gujarat’s Dwarkadhish Temple, while the Ranchi Railway Station pandal depicts Lord Vishnu’s Vamana avatar and the legend of King Mahabali. With large crowds expected during the festival, the administration has put extensive security and traffic arrangements in place.
From Thursday until October 21, traffic restrictions will also be implemented in other major parts of the city. Vehicle movement will be restricted between New Market Chowk and Kishoreganj Chowk, while private vehicles, autos and e-rickshaws will not be allowed from Kutchery Chowk towards Shaheed Chowk, Albert Ekka Chowk and Sujata Chowk during restricted hours.
The administration has designated 23 parking areas, including Sainik Market, Church Complex, District School, Harmu Ground, Bariatu Ground and the area near Naga Baba Khatal. Drop gates have been arranged at 17 locations on the outskirts and 144 locations within the city to regulate traffic and ensure the safe movement of devotees.
