The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) will launch a statewide public awareness campaign against the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2026, culminating in one-day dharnas at all block headquarters on September 7.
The decision was taken at an extended meeting of the party’s Central Committee held at Sohrai Bhawan in Ranchi on August 20. An office order issued by the JMM Central Committee on August 22 said the party would intensify its campaign across all 24 districts, alleging that the amended legislation could cause financial losses to Jharkhand and adversely affect the state’s pending dues.
As part of the Jan Jagran Abhiyan, the party will reach out to people at the grassroots level by August 31, explaining what it claims are the potential financial implications of the legislation for Jharkhand.
The campaign will also highlight the party’s allegation that the Centre is attempting to take over or withhold dues owed to the state.
The JMM has subsequently scheduled one-day dharnas at every block headquarters on September 7 to protest the proposed amendments.
The party has directed district presidents, secretaries and conveners, along with city-level office-bearers, to ensure that both programmes are organised effectively at the district, municipal and grassroots levels.
The Central Committee has also asked party office-bearers and members to disseminate details of the campaign among their respective organisational units and mobilise participation.
The party said further programmes would be announced through separate office orders.
The August 22 directive was issued by Vinod Kumar Pandey, general secretary of the JMM Central Committee.
