Court gives govt 48 hours to file reply; merits to be heard on Friday
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday continued its stay on the state government’s decision to cancel appointments made through various JSSC and JPSC examinations, with the court orally terming the mass cancellation a “Tughlaqi diktat” and observing that such a sweeping action was not appropriate.
The court of Justice Deepak Roshan was hearing petitions, including one filed by Akash Gaurav and others, challenging the cancellation of appointments made through examinations such as the JSSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination under Advertisement No. 10/2023.
The state sought four weeks to file its response, but the court granted only 48 hours and fixed Friday for further hearing.
Govt cancelled 22 exams
The government had announced on August 18 that, based on findings of the CID probe, examinations involving TDPL would be cancelled. It also ordered an inquiry into possible irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted since 2014.
Subsequent notifications issued by the Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha Department said 22 examinations were cancelled, six processes suspended and 17 examinations brought under investigation.
Candidates appointed through these examinations challenged the decision before the High Court, which had earlier stayed the cancellation orders. The stay was continued on Tuesday. The court will hear the legality of the government’s decision and the petitioners’ objections on Friday.
