The district education department has started the ‘Gift of Education’ programme to improve the annual board examination results of Class X and XII students across government and other categories of high schools, higher secondary schools and inter-colleges in the district.

Under the initiative, schools are conducting monthly evaluations and pre-board examinations regularly to monitor students’ academic progress and prepare them for the annual secondary and intermediate examinations. The project for this month began on Friday.

The students will be categorised as below average, average and good based on the test. Remedial teaching will be arranged according to the learning needs. Separate remedial classes for Classes X and XII will be conducted before regular school hours, from the start of the day until 9:30 a.m. and during the last period whenever required.

Madan Mohan Tiwari, coordinator for Gift of Education, said, “The monthly assessments are intended to help teachers identify learning gaps, track students’ performance and provide academic support ahead of the board examinations. Regular evaluations and pre-board examinations will also help students become familiar with examination patterns and improve their preparation.

“PDF copies of question papers for monthly evaluations and pre-board examinations will be shared at the district level through WhatsApp groups of headmasters. Parents and students are also being informed about the importance of these assessments. They are being made aware of the consequences of absence, including the possibility of being barred from appearing in the annual evaluation. All teachers have been directed to complete the evaluation of answer sheets by Oct 20 of every month.”
