A man has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting his minor daughter at their residence in Koderma on August 31. The accused, identified as Arvind Barnwal, was arrested and sent to judicial custody, police said.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother at Koderma police station, she had gone to work on the afternoon of August 31, leaving her daughter and husband at home. The woman alleged that during her absence, Barnwal sexually assaulted their daughter and subsequently threatened her with serious consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.
The mother said she noticed her daughter appearing frightened and distressed the following day and asked her what had happened. The girl subsequently disclosed the alleged incident to her mother.
The mother then informed her family members and, after they arrived in Koderma on September 2, approached the police station and lodged a complaint against her husband, seeking legal action.
Family members also alleged that Barnwal had allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl around two years ago. They said the girl’s mother had intervened at the time and prevented the alleged assault. A complaint was reportedly made to the police then, but was later withdrawn by the mother.
Police said that based on the mother’s complaint, a case has been registered against Barnwal under the POCSO Act. Koderma police station in-charge Arvind Kumar said the accused was arrested and produced before the court, following which he was sent to judicial custody.
Police are investigating the allegations, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
