Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) held its third convocation at the Convocation Mandap of Ranchi University in Morabadi on Thursday. Governor-cum-Chancellor Santosh Kumar Gangwar attended the ceremony as the chief guest and also participated in the academic procession. Degrees and medals were presented to students for their academic achievements.
A total of 6,415 students were awarded degrees at the convocation, including 3,065 male and 3,350 female students. Gold medals were presented to 142 students for outstanding performance in various subjects, including 93 female and 49 male students. Besides, 20 students were awarded PhD degrees.
Dr Rakesh Mohan, former Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and a member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, attended as the special guest and delivered the convocation address. He was also conferred an honorary D.Litt. degree by the university for the first time. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar presented the honorary degree to him.
Addressing the students, Gangwar said a convocation was not merely an occasion to receive degrees but marked an important milestone in their academic journey. He urged the students to use their education and knowledge for the development of society and the nation. He said their responsibilities increased with the attainment of a degree and advised them to move forward with knowledge, skills and values.
Rakesh Mohan, former RBI Deputy Governor, said the pursuit of knowledge is a lifelong process. He also said the continuous pursuit of education should never stop. “The only difference now is that you will have to become your own teacher,” he said.
The convocation also included postgraduate students from the 2024-26 session. The university’s examination department played an important role in completing the examination and result processes on time. The ceremony witnessed enthusiasm among students and their parents.
