The Ranchi Sadar Hospital administration has launched a week-long dengue surveillance and awareness campaign across all wards of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) to prevent the spread of dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
As part of the drive, health department teams began door-to-door visits on Monday to identify suspected dengue cases, collect information on residents suffering from fever, and inspect potential mosquito breeding sites.
The teams checked coolers, overhead water tanks, flower pots, discarded tyres, and other locations where stagnant water could accumulate. They also educated residents on preventive measures, urging them to observe a weekly “Dry Day” by emptying and cleaning water containers to eliminate mosquito breeding.
People were advised to wear full-sleeved clothing and regularly use mosquito nets and repellents.
Officials also appealed to residents to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility if they experience symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, body ache, pain behind the eyes, or skin rashes.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Prabhat Kumar said the campaign aims to create public awareness and ensure a dengue-free Ranchi through active community participation.
According to data from Ranchi Sadar Hospital, 29 dengue cases were reported between January and June this year. However, only one patient required hospitalisation at RIMS, and that patient was a resident of Chatra district, indicating that no severe dengue cases have so far been reported from Ranchi.
