The Governing Council meeting of the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), chaired by Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan, was held at the Collectorate on Friday. The meeting proposed approval of 2,536 new development schemes recommended by public representatives, focusing on the overall development of mining-affected areas.

Addressing the meeting, the DC said the administration was committed to implementing public welfare schemes transparently and efficiently. He assured that most schemes would start showing visible results within three to six months. He urged elected representatives to cooperate in resolving land disputes and local obstacles that often delay construction work. He also said complaints regarding poor construction quality would be investigated within two to three days.

The administration aims to establish at least one functional health sub-centre in every panchayat and provide permanent buildings for Anganwadi centres. Around 140 schools are being developed on the lines of Chief Minister’s Schools of Excellence.

DDC Sunny Raj said the proposed 2,536 schemes follow DMFT guidelines, allocating 70% of funds to priority sectors such as drinking water, education, healthcare, sanitation, women and child welfare, and skill development, while 30% would be directed towards roads, energy and physical infrastructure.

Under the education initiative, 391 government schools have been selected for comprehensive renovation. Modern furniture, smart classrooms, computers, libraries and sports equipment have been provided to 87 schools, while similar facilities are proposed for 413 more. Plates and glasses have been distributed among students in 1,558 government schools. Additionally, 2,863 teachers from eight blocks have received training.

In healthcare, Dhanbad Sadar Hospital has upgraded its outpatient registration system and introduced separate counters for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. More than 415 free cataract surgeries have been performed following the establishment of a modern eye operation theatre. The hospital also provides orthopaedic surgery, a 12-bed Mother and Newborn Care Unit and a 14-bed malnutrition treatment centre. A modern dialysis unit has been established in Topchanchi.

The district plans to construct 419 new Anganwadi buildings, while 201 centres have already received new buildings. The target is to bring 82.5% of centres into their own permanent buildings by the end of the 2026-27 financial year.

For drinking water, maintenance of 7,901 tube wells, installation of 2,405 riser pipes, 97 high-capacity tube wells and 566 special repair works have been completed. Of 793 proposed pond restoration schemes, 205 have been approved, while 588 are under process. A solar-powered lift irrigation project in Nero panchayat of Topchanchi is expected to irrigate 40 hectares.

Tundi MLA Mathura Prasad Mahto sought road repairs, safety measures and additional teachers in rural schools. Dhanbad MLA Raj Sinha proposed upgrading the Central Library and developing an urban forest. Nirsa MLA Arup Chatterjee called for training centres, underground drainage and mobile healthcare services. Sindri MLA Chandradeo Mahto raised issues concerning school relocation and library facilities.
