A complex brain tumour surgery was performed at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, on a 46-year-old patient. Bhushan Singh, the patient, had been suffering from the condition for nearly two years.
The surgery was considered challenging because the tumour was located within the brain and had to be removed while protecting surrounding blood vessels, nerves and normal brain tissue.
According to doctors, such procedures carry risks of bleeding and injury to critical neurological structures. It requires careful surgical planning and coordination among the neurosurgery, anaesthesia and operation theatre teams.
The surgery usually costs around Rs 8 lakh in private. The surgery was performed by Dr Vikas Kumar and his team for around four hours on Monday.
The doctors said when the patient approached the hospital, he was diagnosed with meningioma, a tumour that develops in the membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Dr Vikas said, “The team undertook the procedure with close monitoring and precise surgical techniques. Controlled anaesthesia and coordination between the neurosurgery, anaesthesia and OT teams also played an important role in completing the procedure safely.”
Following the surgery, the patient’s condition has been improved and he is recovering under medical supervision. He is now able to sit and talk.
Dr Bimlesh Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital, said, “The neurosurgery department is continuously expanding its capabilities and successful treatment of complex brain and spine cases is an important achievement.”
The surgery involved the contribution of Dr Vikas Kumar and his neurosurgery team along with anaesthesia specialists Dr Neeraj and Dr Jyotika and members of the OT team.
