Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday felicitated Jharkhand’s players who were part of the Indian women’s hockey team that won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

Indian women’s hockey team captain Salima Tete, along with Nikki Pradhan, Beauty Dungdung and Deepika Soreng, met Soren at his residential office. The Chief Minister congratulated the players on their achievement, interacted with them about their preparations and sought to know about their experiences during the tournament.

Soren encouraged the players by feeding them sweets and felicitated them with traditional angavastrams. He said the contribution of Jharkhand’s players to India’s gold-medal-winning performance was a matter of pride and honour for both the state and the country.

He said the players had brought glory to the nation through their talent, hard work, discipline and determination. Their achievement, he added, had opened another glorious chapter in Jharkhand’s sporting history and would inspire the younger generation, particularly girls in the state, to pursue sports.

Soren urged the players to continue representing the country with the same enthusiasm, dedication, hard work and commitment. He said the state government was committed to promoting sporting talent and providing opportunities for players from Jharkhand to excel.

MLA Kalpana Soren also met the players and congratulated them on their achievement.

Hockey Jharkhand DG Vijay Shankar Singh, international wrestling coach-cum-CEO of Jharkhand Rajnish Kumar and general secretary Manoj Kumar Prasad were also present on the occasion.
