The Jharkhand Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday, approved a series of major decisions covering education, healthcare, employment, infrastructure, policing and disaster management.
Education: 100 more schools to get CM School of Excellence tag
The Cabinet approved the development of 100 additional government schools as CM Schools of Excellence, taking the total number of such schools to 180, including the 80 already covered under the Adarsh Vidyalaya scheme. An administrative sanction of Rs 7,214.32 crore was approved for the initiative.
It also approved the Jharkhand Student Research and Innovation Policy, 2026, aimed at promoting research and innovation among students.
The Cabinet sanctioned Rs 124.38 crore for providing up to 10 oxo-biodegradable sanitary napkins free of cost every month to girls studying in Classes VI to XII in government schools.
Under the Gyanodaya scheme, Rs 73.67 crore was approved for bilingual parental calendars for primary school students, while Rs 27.87 crore was sanctioned for student diaries for students of Classes VI to VIII.
Health: MGMMCH, SNMMCH to get major upgrade, more medical seats
The Cabinet approved a Rs 393.91 crore project to strengthen MGM Medical College, Jamshedpur, with the objective of increasing MBBS seats and introducing new postgraduate subjects and expanding PG seats.
A similar Rs 495.03 crore project was approved for Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College, Dhanbad.
It also approved a Rs 275.18 crore project through the Dhanbad District Mineral Foundation Trust for comprehensive upgradation of the existing medical college and teaching hospital. The project envisages increasing MBBS seats from 100 to 250 and PG seats from 16 to 50.
The Cabinet approved the Jharkhand Health Service rules for contractual appointment of doctors and specialist doctors against vacant posts in government hospitals and health centres.
In another major decision, the retirement age of non-teaching doctors and specialist doctors in the Jharkhand Health Service was reduced from 67 to 65 years.
Infrastructure: Rs 184 crore approved for Topchanchi Lake makeover
The Cabinet approved Rs 184.29 crore for beautification of Topchanchi Lake in Dhanbad under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model through public-private partnership.
It also approved Rs 67.36 crore for Phase-II of the Moharda water supply scheme in Jamshedpur and the Jharkhand Rural Bridge Maintenance Policy, 2025.
Police & Justice
The Cabinet approved installation of 9,006 CCTV cameras in 606 police stations across the state at a revised cost of Rs 90 crore.
It also approved establishment of open/semi-open barracks at four central jails in Ranchi, Dumka, Jamshedpur and Hazaribag.
The draft Jharkhand Court Fees Bill, 2026 was approved, paving the way for repeal of the Court Fees Act, 1870 in the state.
Employment & Rural Development
The Cabinet approved implementation of the Viksit Bharat-Rozgar and Aajeevika Guarantee Mission (Rural), or VB-G RAM G, in Jharkhand.
It also approved a new policy for maintenance and upkeep of rural bridges constructed under the Rural Works Department.
Other key decisions
Lightning and heatwave were removed from Jharkhand’s list of specific local disasters after their inclusion in the Centre’s notified list of natural disasters.
The Cabinet approved transfer of 3.43 acres of land in Dhanbad to Steel Authority of India Limited for rehabilitation and resettlement of families displaced by the Tasra open-cast coal mining project.
