Khargone (MP): Two minor sisters drowned in a well in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, police said on Thursday.
The kids drowned in the water body in a field about 100 metres from their house in Bhuri Bedi village on Wednesday evening, they said.
The deceased were identified as Saloni (7) and Annapurna (3), daughters of Anil Dangi, Maheshwar police station house officer Jagdish Goyal told reporters.
Their father had stepped out for work at the time, while their mother had gone to a hospital. When she returned and found the girls missing, family members and villagers launched a search, he said.
During the search, the girls’ clothes were found near the well. Villagers subsequently retrieved their bodies on Thursday morning, Goyal said.
The sisters were taken to the community health centre in Maheshwar, where doctors declared them dead. The bodies were handed over to the family after postmortem, said the official. A probe into the matter was underway.
