Ballia: The body of a police constable posted at the Bansdih Kotwali police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia was found in a pond, officials said on Monday.
Ballia Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh said that the body of Constable Paritosh Mishra (mid-20s) was discovered at a pond at Chhata Morh at around 10 am.
On September 13, Mishra had gone to the Ballia railway station on his personal motorcycle to drop off another constable, Shivgopal Pal, who was travelling to the Allahabad High Court on official duty to file a counter-affidavit on behalf of the police department regarding a bail petition, he said.
On his way back from Ballia, Mishra had a meal with some other police personnel posted at the Bansdih Road station. He then left on his motorcycle, telling his colleagues that he had to report for night patrol later that night, the SP added.
However, Mishra of the 2025 batch did not report to the Bansdih police station at the scheduled time for the night duty.
Police had been searching for him and trying to gather information about his whereabouts when his body was found in the pond today.
Singh said that local police arrived at the scene, took possession of the body in accordance with procedure, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. Senior police officials have also inspected the site.
