Three people, including a police constable were killed, and another person was seriously injured after two motorcycles collided head-on on the BorioTeenpahar main road near Dhaugra Imli Gachh under Borio police station limits in Sahibganj district on Saturday. Police said head constable Hriday Kumar Sarkar (40), posted with the Jharkhand Police and resident of Udhwa, was returning home from Godda on his motorcycle. Riding in the opposite direction were Miraj Ansari (20) of Vrindavan and his friends Sanaul Ansari (25) and Sahil Ansari (19), who were travelling to Danwar in Borio. The crash occurred near a sharp bend at Dhaugra Imli Gachh when both motorcycles reportedly lost control and struck each other with great force. Hriday Kumar Sarkar and Miraj Ansari died at the scene.
Police and local residents shifted the victims to the Borio Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared two of them dead on arrival and referred the two seriously injured, Sahil and Sanaul Ansari, to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital. Sahil Ansari, who was married only a month ago, died on the way to the Sadar Hospital, while Sanaul Ansari remains under treatment.
“The bodies have been handed over to the respective families after a postmortem was conducted at Sahibganj Sadar Hospital. The damaged motorcycles have been seized and brought to the police station,” said ASI Sudhir Tiwari. Eyewitnesses said that none of the bike riders were wearing helmets. The deceased constable was carrying a helmet, but it was hanging on his motorcycleโs leg guard.
