Kota: A 36-year-old businessman was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on a highway near the Kalisindh River bridge, under Simliya police station in the district, officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Tarun Kant Meena, a resident of RK Puram in Kota, was returning home from his gas agency in Baran when a high-speed dumper rammed into his car from behind, crushing it against a truck ahead, police said.
The police have detained the dumper driver, and a formal investigation into the circumstances of the crash is currently underway, they said.
Simliya Station House Officer Nand Singh said Kant commuted daily between Kota and Baran for business. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Monday as he was heading back to Kota along the highway over the Kalisindh River in the Palayatha-Sinta area.
The impact of the crash was catastrophically severe. The SHO said a fast-moving dumper rear-ended Tarun Kant’s vehicle, sandwiching his car between the dumper and a moving truck in front.
Upon receiving a report of the collision, a police team rushed to the scene and extracted the critically injured driver from the wreck to transport him to the hospital, where attending doctors declared him dead on arrival, they said.
On Tuesday morning, police completed the post-mortem in the presence of his family and released the body to his relatives.
