Jamshedpur: The West Singhbhum district administration has launched an awareness campaign to encourage rural residents to use utensil banks at social gatherings, offering an affordable and environment-friendly alternative to disposable plates, cups and other single-use items.
Weddings, religious ceremonies, festivals and village meetings often involve considerable expenditure on utensils and generate large quantities of waste. The utensil banks aim to address both concerns by allowing families to rent the items they need instead of purchasing them or relying on disposable alternatives.
Rental charges start at Rs 2,500, with families able to hire utensils according to their requirements. The initiative seeks to reduce household expenses while promoting reusable alternatives and minimising the environmental impact of community events.
To spread awareness at the grassroots level, the administration has deployed a vehicle to inform villagers about the availability of utensils, rental facilities and their benefits.
