Police have formed a special investigation team to probe the theft of valuables from a builder’s house in Ashok Nagar, said Rakesh Ranjan, Senior Superintendent of Police, on Friday.
Notably, unidentified criminals had decamped with cash and valuables worth over Rs 85 lakhs from builder Akhilesh Pandey’s house on Wednesday night.
Police informed that the victim lodged a complaint with Argora Police Station (PS), claiming that 600 grams of gold, having a market value of Rs 78 lakhs, apart from Rs 8 lakhs in cash, were stolen by the miscreants.
In the process of investigation, police have examined closed-circuit television camera footage of the area and also used a sniffer dog to trace the criminals. A forensic science laboratory team has also collected evidence from the spot for about four hours.
In-charge of Argora PS Anil Kumar Tiwari said, “Prima facie, it seems that the same group was involved in attempting to steal valuables from the house of another businessman, Nishit Kesri.”
Police informed that masked thieves entered Pandey’s house using the pipe of the building. Their modus operandi suggested that the criminals had detailed information about the building.
Thieves had also tried to enter the house of builder Nishit Kesri, located nearby. The house owner, however, got an inkling of suspicious movement on his premises and alerted his guard, Mukhdeo.
The guard fired from his gun, forcing the criminals to flee. The guard, however, got injured as one of the pellets fired by him hit his hand.
