The Khunti police on Saturday apprehended a People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) extremist, Rajendra Sahu alias Rajendra Sao, from Gambharia village under Murhu police station (PS) limits, police informed.
A country-made pistol and six cartridges were seized from the extremist, police added.
Rishav Garga, Khunti Superintendent of Police (SP), on Sunday said, “Police received inputs regarding Sahu’s visit to his native village, Gambharia.
A police team led by Torpa Sub-Divisional Police Officer Vijay Kumar Singh raided the area and arrested him.”
The SP informed that Sahu was rebuilding the PLFI organization in the district, adding that he was involved in several criminal incidents that occurred in recent days, including firing at a gas godown in Torpa and at the railway site in the Karra area.
Police stated that seven cases related to different crimes, including murder, violation of the Arms Act, and extremist activities, were registered against Sahu at different PSs, including Torpa, Murhu, Karra, and Khunti in the district. He was absconding for a long period, they added.
The Khunti SP said that the PLFI was trying to re-establish its presence in Khunti district, adding that police were carrying out operations to eradicate it.
Police have apprehended 19 PLFI members and seized at least seven weapons from them in the last three months, he said.
He opined that whenever PLFI members are released on bail, they try to rebuild their organization in the district.
Presently, all top leadership of the PLFI organization has been either nabbed or eliminated. The PLFI state chief, Amrit Horo, was apprehended from the Lapung area of Ranchi district on May 28.
