Ranchi: A total of 46,635 pregnant and lactating women have been enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) across Jharkhand during the special enrollment drive conducted from June 15 to July 15, 2026. These women are eligible to receive benefits under the Centre’s flagship maternity welfare scheme.

The PMMVY provides financial assistance to eligible pregnant and lactating women to support maternal nutrition. Eligible women receive Rs 5,000 in two instalments for their first child, while Rs 6,000 is provided for the birth of a second girl child. The scheme also encourages regular antenatal care, promotes institutional deliveries, and improves the health of both mothers and newborns.

Talking to TGC, Kiran Kumari Pasi, Director of Social Welfare, said, “The special drive was launched to identify women who have not been registered earlier. It aims to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out. The campaign has expanded the coverage of the maternity benefit scheme in the state by registering thousands of eligible women who were previously left out.”

The initiative covers women from economically weaker and vulnerable groups, including Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families, Below Poverty Line households, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) beneficiaries, e-Shram card holders, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) beneficiaries, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) job card holders, families with an annual income below Rs 8 lakh, and Anganwadi and Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers.

Moreover, a total of 52,590 beneficiaries under the scheme are awaiting the release of the second instalment, which is linked to childbirth and immunization in the state till Thursday. An official said, “The drive is focused on clearing pending payments by verifying childbirth records, completing immunization-related documentation, and processing the release of the second instalment for eligible beneficiaries.”

The district authorities of low-enrolment districts, including Ranchi, Chatra, Sahibganj, and Giridih, have been directed to expedite verification.
