In Hinduism, Pitru Paksha is considered a special period dedicated to expressing reverence, gratitude and offering prayers to ancestors.

During this period, people perform Shraddha, Tarpan, Pind Daan and charity for the peace of their ancestors’ souls and to seek their blessings.

In 2026, Pitru Paksha will begin on Saturday, September 26, with Purnima Shraddha. It will conclude on Saturday, October 10, with Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Since there is no loss of any lunar date this year, the Shraddha Paksha will continue for the full 16 days.

Beginning and Ending on Saturday

According to astrological beliefs, Pitru Paksha beginning on a Saturday and ending on a Saturday is considered significant. Saturday is associated with Lord Shani, while ancestors also hold special importance in Hindu religious traditions. Therefore, this combination is considered auspicious for reverence and Tarpan.

Why Is Kutup Muhurat Important for Shraddha?

According to the scriptures, Shraddha and Tarpan for ancestors are traditionally performed during the afternoon. Kutup and Rohini periods are given special importance during this time.

As per the given timings, Kutup Muhurat will be from 11:36 AM to 12:24 PM. This will be followed by Rohini Muhurat from 12:24 PM to 1:12 PM, while the Aparahna period will continue from 1:12 PM to 3:36 PM.
