Jamshedpur: A minor altercation over an alleged delay in serving a vegetable roll turned deadly in Adityapur in the early hours of Wednesday, leaving a youth dead and four others injured in a knife attack.

The incident took place at a fast-food stall in Khau Gali, near Shiv Mandir Durga Puja pandal opposite the AIADA gate, under Adityapur police station limits.

According to preliminary police investigations, Shekhar had visited the pandal to oversee lighting arrangements and replace fused bulbs. He later went to the nearby food stall with his friend Golu Kumar to have a roll. An argument allegedly broke out between them and the shopkeeper over the delay in serving their order, which soon escalated into violence.

Shekhar and Golu subsequently called members of the puja committee for intervention. Sunny Singh, a committee member, reached the spot but was allegedly attacked with knives by the shopkeeper and his staff. Sagar Jha and Arun Pandey, who attempted to intervene, were also stabbed.

The deceased was 30 years old, while the injured were in the 30–32 age group.

Police rushed the injured to a private hospital, but Shekhar died on the way.

Seraikela SDPO Abhinav Bhardwaj and Adityapur officer-in-charge Anjani Kumar reached the spot with a police team.

Police detained three youths, including the stall operator, for questioning. The SDPO said an investigation was underway.
