Nashik: A man from Nashik has claimed that his 17-year-old daughter died after being administered a dose of tetanus-diphtheria vaccine, prompting the authorities to order a probe, an official said on Thursday.
Family Alleges Fatal Reaction After Girl Collapses Following Vaccine Shot
City resident Anil Patil told the media that his daughter, Shravani Patil, received a “Td booster” dose as part of a vaccination drive in the Khutwadnagar area of the city on Wednesday afternoon. However, she soon felt dizzy and collapsed and was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared her dead, said the father.
Shravani’s father and relatives have alleged that she died due to the vaccine shot and demanded stringent action against those responsible. According to police, the immunisation drive was conducted by the health department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation.
Officials said that Shravani’s post-mortem was conducted and the viscera samples have been preserved. They said the samples will be sent to the forensic laboratory for further investigation.
“The final report will reveal the exact cause of the death. For now, a case of accidental death has been registered at the Ambad police station and further investigations are on,” said an official.
Triple Agency Inquiry Launched as WHO Teams Collect Vaccine Vial Data
Dr Vijay Devkar, chief medical and health officer of the Nashik civic body, said that besides the corporation, health teams from the state and central governments will also conduct inquiries into the death of the teenager. He said the use of the complete batch of the vaccine has been stopped.
The World Health Organisation provides these vaccines, and its coordinators have also collected information about the incident, said the civic health official.
“Samples from the vial from which the vaccine was administered to Shravani have also been collected for testing. In all, six persons were administered doses from the same vial. However, others did not suffer any problem,” said Devkar.
